Clarification regarding the organisation of World Ranking Events (WREs) for the season 2021
The deadline for applications is usually 30 September the year before the event. However, due to COVID-19 and the impact on organising events, the IOF is more flexible about late applications for the season 2021. More information can be found on the page Information and Documents for Organisers and Event Advisers, in the first paragraph "Applications, World Ranking Events".

Due to the cancellation of the JWMTBOC 2020, junior athletes born in the year 2000 could not compete for medals in their final year of junior eligibility, and athletes born in 2001 and 2002 missed out on one of the three World Championships they would normally have in M20/W20. The IOF MTBO Commission have prepared a consultation paper in which a proposal is presented on how to deal with this. All federations are asked to give feedback on the proposal, which the IOF Office sent to the federations today. The MTBO Commission would be grateful if the relevant person in the federation could answer the questions in the survey by 11 September 2020. For questions regarding the details of the proposal, please refer directly to the MTBOC.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to contribute your thoughts and opinions!

Today is a day when the entire MTBO community is united in shock and a profound sense of loss, on learning of the senseless and tragic death of the talented Portuguese athlete Duarte Lourenço - a young man with a passion for life and his sport and loved and respected by all who knew him. A young man of much promise only just embracing all that life had to offer. Duarte died whilst training on his bike, hit by a car, which has also seriously injured his father. Duarte was due to join us in sport in Budapest just next week. The caring and loving thoughts of the whole MTBO family are with Duarte's family, his loved ones and teammates at this very sad time. Our deepest and sincere condolences. |

6 November 2016
NEW CLASSES IN WORLD MASTERS SERIES (WMS)
The two new classes M35 and W35 are added to the World Masters Series 2017. The reason for their inclusion is to maintain competitor enjoyment and retain participation numbers between Elite and the current Masters age classes. A number of athletes have felt that there is a void for them between the end of their career in Elite and the current WMS Masters classes starting at the age of 40. The proposal of the Masters Working Group to add M/W35 to the World Masters Series for a trial period has met with the approval of the MTBO Commission. For total clarity these classes apply only to WMS races and not to the World Masters MTBO Championships (WMMTBOC). Competitors in these classes should race on the M/W40 course and a separate 35 class will be constituted from the results.
As in 2017 only the World Championships in France combine Elite World Cup and WMS, and the WMS constitutes the best seven results from fifteen possible races, it is indeed entirely possible for qualifying athletes to compete in both World Cup and WMS competitions should they wish to do so. We hope the new classes will attract a good level of competitors during this trial.

Based on requests at the Open MTBO Forum during the World Cup in Hungary, the questionnaire to give feedback on the World Cup Rounds has been modified. Now it allows even very busy people to give a quick feedback by only filling in part 1. This first part consists of just seven questions that require eight clicks - and you're done!
Part 2 is the same detailed questionnaire as before. The MTBO commission would be happy to get feedback from more participants by this two-part questionnaire. Of course we are grateful to all those who take the time to complete the whole questionnaire. The link to the modified form is on the site Event Evaluation.
